I’ve been really quiet with a small new project for the past week…
The game is still ongoing and very much at the back of my mind - we are hoping to get the new app to a finished state by the end of the week, oh yea click through to follow me on twitter!

See that little warning sign? Yea.. thats what happens when Windows 7 goes wrong!
I thought i would have a little experiment installing it on my netbook and after it went into hibernation it never came back. Currently running ‘parted magic’ from a usb pen to try and recover my old xp installation which has gone mia as well!

I now use bittorrent so much its actually quite uncomfortable to download a large file from only one server.. Im not the first person to say it by any means, but why doesn’t Microsoft distribute Windows 7 Beta via bittorrent?
Im guessing it would go someway to legitimising the legal uses of bt, and we can’t have that!
I hope the wireless doesn’t cut out at 2.3Gb.

Just arrived back in Sheffield after my Christmas break.. the day job starts again tomorrow :-(
Both cadyou and my personal homepage are currently offline which sucks, apparently my hosts are replacing the motherboard!
In other uninteresting news i seem to have fixed a few memory leaks in the topdown engine, and will be putting it online for people to play with just as soon as there are some temporary road graphics in there to properly show the ground. yay.

back?
A bit of a hiatus mainly due to Christmas time with family and friends.. but also not knowing what to post about as i am currently doing little bits on various projects!
I fixed a huge stumbling block on the top-down engine yesterday which was causing objects to spawn late and ‘pop up’ on screen. Unfortunately even simple sounding issues like this are becoming complex in the engine as there is so much to keep track of between the tile engine, 3d renderer and physics components.
I am going to spend the next day or two simply tidying the code so it is easier to continue to the next features. There is one bug left to fix on the AI vehicles and then i will start on either AI / user controllable people or a mission engine (which can be used for structuring races should this get used for a racing game)

I have been quiet recently, especially on the game design front. This is due to two reasons, a lot of issues surrounding my other big project - cadyou - and the run up to christmas meaning i have to socialise… bad eh?!
I have been making some big changes to the infrastructure behind cadyou due to reaching the limits of our hosting package - i am hoping to move a lot of the files over to Amazon S3 over the next few days which means unlimited storage and bandwidth :-) After which i will be hitting the game again over the christmas period.
